Dr. Amin Hassan Omer: Release of Justice and Equality Movement Detainees Depends on Reaching Comprehensive Cease-Fire
Khartoum, June 29 (SUNA)- Chairman of the government delegation for Doha negotiations, Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, said that release of the detainees of the Justice and Equality Movement depends on the signing of a comprehensive cease-fire. At the media forum organized by the Press Office at the Presidency of the Republic Monday, Dr. Omer said that linking the issue of the release of the Justice and Equality Movement's detainees with the start of the negotiations is something rejected and unacceptable. He said that the Justice and Equality Movement did not abide by the first item of negotiation, which indicates that peace shall be the strategic for all parties. He said that the issue of the negotiation priority to the Justice and Equality Movement has become a controversial issue between the movement's leader, Dr. Khail Ibrahim and its leading figure, Suleiman Jamoos. Dr. Omer said that the delegation of the Justice and Equality Movement was not mandated to negotiate about any thing, excluding the release of its members. He said that the atmosphere of the negotiation in Doha was calm and normal; adding that the negotiation session provided a chance for useful exchange of views with the mediators and observers, despite the fact that the session did not come out with tangible positive results. He said that the United States forwarded visions toward pushing ahead the Doha negotiation process during the recent visit of the government delegation to Washington, adding that the government accepted these views. Dr. Omer hoped that launching of the French initiative for enhancing the Sudanese - Chadian relations will mark the start of an effective French role for solving the whole issue, referring to the strong ties between Paris and N'djamena. He stated that the coming two weeks will witness intensive activity to push forward the Doha negotiation process, indicating that the visit of the American envoy to Chad comes in the context of the efforts to achieve a comprehensive solution for Darfur issue.
