Diya Increased to 30,000 pounds and Toughed Diya Increased to 40,000
Khartoum -Jan. 6 (SUNA) - The Chief Justice Jalal-Eddin Mohamed Osman, Wednesday issued a circular changing the value of the full Diya (blood money) to be 30,000 Sudanese pounds and 40,000 Sudanese pounds for the toughed Diya. The circular issued Wednesday the Chief Justice urged the courts to consider the requirements of the fourth and fifth paragraphs of Article (45) of the Criminal Code for the year 1991 while issuing judicial decrees and sentences involving Diya. The circular stated that the change in Diya value takes effects as of the first day of January 2010, explaining that the previous estimate for the Diya is applicable for the incidents occurred before declaration of the change in the Diya amount. It is to be recalled that the sum of the full Diya before this change was 20,000 Sudanese pounds, while the value of toughed Diya was 30,000 Sudanese pounds. MF/MO
