Carter to Visit Sudan in the First Week of next February

 

Khartoum, Jan. 29 (SUNA)- The former US president, Jimmy Carter, is due to visit Sudan during February 8 - 12, heading a delegation of Carter Centre, to be informed on the election process and implementation of health projects being implemented by Carter Centre. Deputy Director of the American Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Abu-Salih, said that the visit of president Carter coincides with developments taking place in the country, represented in the general elections at all levels. Carter is due to meet during his visit to Sudan with the President of the Republic, the First Vice - President, Chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC) and leaders of the political parties. Ambassador Abu-Salih indicated that Carter would discuss with the federal Minister of Health the role of Carter Centre, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, for eradication of Guinea worm disease in south Sudan and ways to speed up the efforts in this regard according with the international plan for eradicate this disease. He said that Carter and the federal Minister of Health would also review implementation of Carter Centre's programme for combating the river blindness disease in south Sudan. MO/MO
