Carter Center Pledges to Refrain from Political Work and to be Confined to Monitoring the Elections

Khartoum, Mar. 30 (SUNA) - The Secretary of the Organizations Secretariat at the National Congress, Dr. Qotbi Al-Mahdi, announced that Carter Center has affirmed its commitment, at meetings between him and officials of the center, to carry out its monitoring role over the election process scheduled to begin next week in Sudan and to refrain from media work and expressing remarks and not to interfere or to speculate who would win till the end of the election process

In a press statement Tuesday after his meeting with officials of Carter Center at the National Congress, Dr. Al-Mahdi said that the meeting was a continuation to former meetings, explaining that the center declared its commitment to play the role expected from it, to keep away from any political activities and to be confined to the monitoring process

He referred to an expected visit of Jimmy Cater to Sudan shortly

Responding to a question raised by a journalist, Dr. Al-Mahdi said that boycott of some parties to the election is something expected, but the important thing is that there are 16 million citizens who registered for voting and have the right to vote and to participate in the elections
