12th General Conference of the International Arab Workers Union begins in Khartoum

 

Khartoum, Feb. 1 (SUNA) - The 12th General Conference of the International Arab Workers Union Monday began at the Friendship Hall in the presence of the Vice - President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, the Minister of Labour, Alison Manani Magaya, the Secretary General of the International Arab Workers Union, Hassan Hamam, the General Director of Arab Workers Organization, the Secretary General of the International Workers Union and the Secretary General of the African Workers Union

 

The opening sitting of the conference was addressed by Chairman of Sudan Workers Trade Union Federation (SWTUF), Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, who said that the 12th General Conference of the International Arab Workers Union convenes when the Arab World id surpassing difficult conditions, successive crises and continuous targeting by enemies, including Darfur issue, the aggressions Iraq, Lebanon and Syria

 

He said that the Arab World is needy for the unity of rank and mobilization of the strong political will, adding that the initiative in this regard shall come from the peoples under the pending silence of the leaders

 

Prof. Ghandour appreciated the role which being played by the International Arab Workers Union and the Arab country workers trade unions concerning the national Arab causes

 

He expressed Sudan appreciation of the support extended to it by the International Arab Workers Union through the firm stances in boosting to Sudan

 

Prof. Ghandour stressed the importance of Arab integration and solidarity toward achieving economic unity and confronting the negative impacts of the globalization, the unjust decisions and the economic and cultural invasion. He called for removing of all the impediments facing the participation of the Arab women

 

He also called for paving the way for the exchange of the Arab manpower. Prof. Ghandour said that the Arab conference convenes in Khartoum when Sudan is witnessing major progress and developments are taking place in Sudan, including the general elections at all levels

 

He said that the Act of Workers Trade Unions, which was ratified by the Parliament, is coping with the criteria set by the International Labour Organization (ILO), stating that this act assigned 25% of the seats at the trade unions for women at all levels
