Visit by a Delegation led by Retired LGen. M. K. Jeffery

A delegation of four people, led by LGen. M.K. Jeffery had a working visit in El Fasher on 25 July 2006.

The delegation paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Hassan Gibril, Deputy Head of Mission.  At the centre of their discussion was the outcome of the Pledging Conference which took place in Brussels whose objective was to decide on the resources to grant to the African Union Mission in the Sudan, while awaiting for the transition to the United Nation.

LGen Jeffery underlined the importance of the transition for AMIS in her efforts to restore peace in Sudan.

That point of view was supported by Ambassador Hassan Gibril, the Deputy Head of Mission, who assured the delegation that both the financial and material resources that will be made available to AMIS by the international community will be used judiciously and rationally.

Ambassador Hassan Gibril, pointed out that the most important aspect for AMIS at this particular moment in the peace process is the implementation of the Darfur Peace Accord considering the efforts exerted to get the accord signed.

Thereafter, the delegation was briefed by the military component on the AMIS Concept of Operations in implementing the DPA, which has additional tasks for the mission.

At the end of his visit LGen (Retd) Jeffery commended the efforts exerted by AMIS in the search for sustainable peace in Darfur, despite the difficult conditions under which it is operating.
