Nigerian striker Stephen Worgu has completed a $US2.6 million move to Sudanese club Al Merreikh.

Worgu, 19, was the top scorer in this year's African Champions League, scoring 13 goals for Nigerian club Enyimba, who lost to Al Ahly of Egypt in the semi-finals.

Merreikh officials confirmed that Worgu had signed a four-year deal with the club.

"This is one of the biggest transfer deals in the history of African football," Al Merreikh president Ibrahim Waly said.

Worgu had been linked with Al Ahly, but opted instead for Al Merreikh, who finished second in their group in this year's Confederation Cup.

"I preferred Merreikh to Ahly because the club chairman demonstrated how serious he was about a deal by bringing me here," Worgu told the Sudanese media on arriving to conclude a deal.

"The warm reception I received was delightful and I hope to live up to the expectations of Merreikh."

Nigerians have made a major impact in Sudan for several seasons with Endurance Idahor among the stars of Merreikh while Kelechi Osunwa is the leading scorer at Al Hilal. undefined undefined
