With participation of 3,000 policemen, Ministry of Interior participates in securing food convoys in Darfur
Khartoum, May 6 (SUNA) - The Ministry of Interior is participating with 3000 policemen from the Central Police Reserve Force and 50 vehicles in securing 5 major roads in Darfur in order to secure the transport of some 45,000 tones of food stuff for the WFP every month to the affected people in Darfur before advent of the rainy season. Minister of Interior, Engineer Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, said in the regular SUNA press forum held at the Ministry of Interior Tuesday that he and top aides met with the WFP and owners of transporting trucks and agreed to increase the police force escorting the vehicles which are to transport some 45,000 tones of food stuff with increase of 5,000 tones from the scheduled monthly quantity, announcing set up of operation chamber to follow up the issue. The Minister pointed out that police securing forces will be on the move every 48 hours to secure the relief trucks, commercial vehicles and fuel tanks coming to Darfur via North Darfur and South Darfur as well as along Al-Fashir-Neyala and Neyala -El-Ginaina roads. The Minister explained that Darfur States are to issue orders preventing the movements of vehicles along these roads without police escorts, referring to the prompt response of the Legislative Council of Southern Darfur State.
