The National Museum in Warsaw has signed a cooperation agreement with the Sudanese National Museum in Chartum.
The agreement provides for an exchange of periodic exhibitions, art historians and conservators, as well as for joint research projects.
The contacts between the two institutions go back to 1959 when Polish archeologists started the excavations in Faras, north Sudan. They resulted in the sensational discovery of over 120 frescos on the walls of a destroyed cathedral dating from the period between the 8th and 13th centuries.
The National Museums in Warsaw and Chartum have published an album about the Faras fescoes with a text in three languages – Polish, English and Arabic. (mk)
