Wali of North Darfur State receives Russian Envoy to Sudan

 

Al-Fashir, Jan. 28 (SUNA) - The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia and special envoy of the Russian President to Sudan, Mikhail Margelov, affirmed strength and importance of the strategic relations linking Sudan and Russia at all the arenas in Africa, Arab and Middle East. This came when he was received at the premises of the Government of North Darfur State in Al-Fashir by the Wali (Governor) of North Darfur State Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibbir and the members of his government and the leaders of the legislative and justice organs. The Russian Envoy explained that their visit to Al-Fashir comes to have a closer look at the general situations on the ground in Darfur, praising the improvement in the situations in the camps of the IDPs. Margelov further stressed importance of strengthening and developing the relations linking Sudan and Russia in order to play more positive role at the regional and international levels. Meanwhile, the Wali of North Darfur State, welcomed during the meeting the appointment of Mikhail Margelov as a Russian Envoy to Sudan, affirming the importance of Russia at the international arena and urged him to play a positive role in order to solve the issue of Darfur as well as reflecting the real picture of the situations in Darfur besides working to remove injustice and ambition incurred upon Sudan. The Wali described the movements of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as political action against the Sudan through exploiting the issue of Darfur, saying issuing of a decision by the ICC will be of direct impacts on the people of Darfur, including prolonging the crisis, complicating the issue and increasing the number of IDPs. The Wali of North Darfur State described the issue of Darfur as utilized by media and armed movements to achieve personal gains through the international and regional forums as well as misleading media. Kibbir briefed the Russian Envoy and the accompanied delegation on the general situations in his state, explaining that the humanitarian, security, health and social situations are stable and witnessed great improvement compared to the situations in the previous years. The Acting Speaker of the Legislative Council Yousif Mahmoud Al-Tayeb called on the International Community, Russia in particular, to play effective role to push the armed movements that did not sign Darfur Peace Agreement to join the peace process, calling for contributing in the development efforts in Darfur. He also affirmed rejection to the movements of the ICC against the President of the Republic. The Chairperson of the Committee of Education and Health at the Legislative Council Latifa Gabir explained that the visit of the Russian Envoy and the accompanying delegation will allow them to get acquainted with the real situations on the ground, describing the movements of the ICC as political and not legal. It is to be noted that the Russian delegation expressed readiness to cooperate with the University of Al-Fashir through the Ministries of Higher Education in the two countries in the academic domains. The Russian Envoy is expected to meet the leadership of the United Nations - African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in its headquarters in Al-Fashir. MF/ BT
