WB says Sudan ranks 8 in biggest Arab Economies, 64 internationally
Khartoum, July 19 (SUNA) - State Minister at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, Dr. Luwal Ashweil Deng, said Sudan ranks 8 in terms of the biggest Arab Economies and 64 among the biggest international economies due to the achievement of Peace which led to adoption of rational economic policies in 2005 -2006. The Minister said in a statement to SUNA that among reasons behind the above achievement were that the State has created an atmosphere suitable for investment and empowered the private sector in order to play its role in the economic growth besides the adoption of economic liberation policy. Dr. Deng added that the stability following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Darfur Peace Agreement and Eastern Sudan Peace Agreement has contributed in the above achievement. He revealed WB's Study about Sudan Economy from 1962 - 2007, showing speedy economic growth following the signing of Addis Ababa Peace agreement in 1972 and Naivasha Peace Agreement in 2005. As for Sudan's rate of economic Growth, Dr. Deng said according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) it is 10% but according to his personal studies it is about 15% because the South is not included in the CBS figure. It is to be noted the World Bank said in its annual list of international classification of countries in Washington has mentioned that Sudan ranks 8 in the biggest Arab economies and 64 internationally with a gross national product GNP) of 47.7 billion US dollars.
