University of Al-Imam Al-Mahdi awards Salva Kiir Honorary Doctorate

 

Kosti, Dec. 21 (SUNA) - The University of Al-Imam Al-Mahdi has awarded the First Vice President of the Republic and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, honorary doctorate in political sciences. This came as part of the celebrations of the University of Al-Imam Al-Mahdi on the occasion of the graduation of some 2892 students. The University further granted the former minister of defence, Gen. Abdul-Majed Hamid Khalil, honorary doctorate in law and Raja Hassan Khalifa honorary doctorate in arts. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Prof. Peter Adoc, addressed the occasion, affirming keenness of the government to upgrade the higher education, highlighting the important role being played by the universities in the society, pointing out that there are some 39 universities and 51 colleges and urged the establishment of college for peace studies. Meanwhile, the Wali (Governor) of the White Nile State, Mohammed Nourallah El-Tigani, affirmed support of his government to the University of Al-Imam Al-Mahdi, urging the graduates to stick to the national issues. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Rahim Osman, explained that the university will continue to be an effective tool for disseminating peace besides boosting its contacts with the other Sudanese and international universities. Chairman of the Council of the University, Gen. Abdul-Majed Hamid Khalil, called for linking the education with the requirements of the Sudanese society and urged the university to give more concern to the Mahdism studies. MF/ BT
