UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese government met with officials from the joint United Nations-African Union (AU) peacekeeping force in Darfur and reassured them of the smooth deployment of the mission in the country's calamitous western region.

According to the government, it would exert itself to remove all obstacles concerning the land use that would be needed by the mission, known as UNAMID.

Other topics mentioned during the meeting included the support for Djibril Yipn Bassol, the new Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, and the reinforcement of the offices of the Joint Mediation Support Team.

Last week, the UN Security Council extended by one year (until July 31, 2009) the mandate of the joint peacekeeping mission.
