Sudan celebrate winning the Cecafa Cup in 2007
Sudan are the holders but will probably not make the semis in Uganda

Last year's winners Sudan are nearly certain of missing out on a place in the last four of this year's Cecafa Cup, the tournament for east and central Africa, which is taking place in Uganda at the moment.

They were beaten 1-0 by Burundi on Tuesday and now lie fourth in their group with just one game to go.

Only the top two teams in each group go through to the knock-out stages.

Burundi are top of Group B, whilst Kenya moved into second place after a 5-1 win over Djibouti.

Sudan went down to the only goal of the game, scored in the eighth minute by Burundi's Eric Gatoto.

On Thursday, Sudan play third placed Zambia - who did not play on Tuesday - and Kenya face Burundi.

If the Harambee Stars of Kenya win or draw that game, then Sudan have no chance.

Even if they are beaten then Sudan need victory over Zambia by a huge scoreline to have a chance of going through on goal-difference.

Kenya gave themselves a chance of making the last four with a big win over Djibouti.

The 5-1 scoreline would have been even bigger had the team taken all their chances - as it was, Francis Ouma secured a hat-trick.

Coach Francis Kimanzi was sent to the stands by the referee for the last five minutes but said he was satisfied with the performance. undefined undefined
