Sudan Elected Chairman of the Group of 77

 

New York, Sept. 26 (SUNA) - Sudan was elected the chairman of the Group of 77 and China for the year 2009 at the meeting of the group's ministerial meeting Friday evening in New York, on the sidelines of the current meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York. This step was regarded as a new accomplishment of the Sudanese diplomacy, which will enable Sudan to lead the Group of 77 in the year 2009. The meeting was attended by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, who congratulated the Vice - President and head of Sudan delegation to the current General Assembly's session, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, on the confidence of the group. After the election process, Taha addressed the meeting expressing Sudan thanks to the member states of the Group of 77 for their confidence. The meeting was attended by a number of ministers of the group, who expressed their confidence on Sudan capability to assume the leadership of the group.
