CAIRO, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Some Arab professional unions will visit Sudan to show support to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in the wake of the recent row over the International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor's call to arrest the president for alleged war crimes, Egypt's state MENA news agency reported Saturday.
A delegation from the Arab physicians' union will arrive in Khartoum on July 20 to declare the union' solidarity with al-Bashir, said the report.
In a statement, the Arab physicians' union slammed the ICC prosecutor's accusations, calling on the court not to act with double standards.
Meanwhile at the request of the Sudanese bar association, a delegation of the Arab lawyers' union will arrive in Khartoum on July 21.
During their stay in Sudan, the Arab lawyers' delegation will meet al-Bashir and attend an emergency meeting to lay down a legal mechanism to deal with the ICC prosecutor's accusations.
On Monday, the Hague-based ICC's Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo formally requested an arrest warrant against al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
Sudan, which is not a member of the ICC, has rejected the ICC allegations against President al-Bashir, dismissing them as "null and false" and maintaining the ICC has no jurisdiction over Sudan.
