Sami Al-Haj Praises Government Efforts for his Release

 

Khartoum, May 2 (SUNA)- The Sudanese cameraman of Al-Jazeera TV channel, who was released from Guantanamo detention and arrived home Friday morning, has expressed his appreciation of the role of Sudan government and its persistent efforts which culminated in his release after seven years of detention in Guantanamo. In a press statement to SUNA, Sami Al-Haj said that he and his family were pleased by the visit paid the visit to him at Al-Amal Hospital by the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir. He said that his detention seven years ago was intended to abort the sound media work which was launched in the Middle East region and achieved brilliant results in correcting erroneous concepts, enlightening minds and denuding conspiracies, a matter which was angering some circles that pretend to show themselves as advocates of democracy, rights and peace. Sami Al-Haj expressed his happiness to return to Sudan. He said that the increase of satellites will be of maximum benefit for the region and help dissemination of the glorious media message and genuine peace. Meanwhile, the wife of Sami Al-Haj, Asma Ismailov, spoke to SUNA about her pleasure on her husband's release after a long period of detention. She hoped that the remaining detainees in Guantanamo will be set free. She expressed her appreciation of the visit paid to Sami Al-Haj by the President of the Republic, indicating that this visit assured the government concern with the detainees' issue. Meanwhile, the Director of Al-Amal Hospital, Dr. Yousif Al-Kurdofani, told SUNA that the health condition of Sami Al-Jaj is currently stable, adding that Al-Haj would stay at the hospital for a number of days for more medical check up.
