President Al-Bashir to Inaugurate Al-Salam Heart Surgery Hospital

 

Khartoum, May 1 (SUNA) - President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, is to inaugurate on Thursday Al-Salam Heart Surgery Hospital in Soba area, announced federal Minister of Health, Dr. Thabita Butros. She said at regular press forum of Sudan News Agency Tuesday that all arrangements have been finalized for the hospital's inauguration. The minister said that the hospital will provide free surgery service for all the patients in Sudan and neighboring countries, explaining that the maximum capacity of the hospital reaches 1500 heart operations per year, most of them are catered for the patients inside Sudan. The minister said that the hospital has been established at Soba area as a joint venture between the Italian Emergency Organization and the federal Ministry of Health according which the two parties signed in June 2005. Dr. Thabita went on to say that the total cost for establishment of the hospital was 15 million US dollars, adding that the hospital was set up in accordance with high international standards. She indicated that the annual steering budget of the hospital is estimated at 15 million dollars the Sudan, 3.7 million of them were provided by Sudan government. The minister said that the hospital will receives the patients and their families, adding that that there is a plane to transport the patients inside Sudan and neighboring countries. She explained that hospital started receiving the patients in April 14; adding that 6000 patients have underwent check up, while 15 surgeries were made so far. The minister expressed optimism that the hospital would boost the medical process in the country, whereas it is expected to provide over 300 work opportunities for Sudanese medical cadres. Dr. Thabita expressed thanks to Khartoum State's Wali (governor), Dr. Abdul-Halim Al-Mutaafi, and the Presidential Advisor, Dr. Ahmed Bilal Osman, over their contribution to the establishment of the hospital. Meanwhile, the Director of the Therapeutic Medical Administration, Dr. Al-Saddiq Qassmal-Seed, said at the forum that a heart surgery usually costs around eight to 12 million Sudanese pounds. He said that the hospital gives priority to the Sudanese patients and provides them with best services. He hoped that the hospital would be a model to be followed by all other medical centres and hospitals. The Director of the federal Hospitals' Administration, Dr. Ashraf Obeid, hoped that other similar centres would be established all over of the country. ZA/MO
