President Al-Bashir holds meetings with Presidents of Tanzania, Kenya and Algeria and Bassole

 

Doha, Nov. 30 (SUNA)- President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir met separately at his residence in Doha Sunday Presidents of Tanzania, Kenya and Algeria and the Joint AU-UN Chief Mediator for Darfur. Sudan Permanent Envoy to the United Nations Ambassador Abdel-Mahmoud Abdel-Halim said in a statement to SUNA that President Al-Bashir briefed the Tanzanian President, whose country chairs the current session of the African Union, on developments in Sudan, including the Initiative of the People of Sudan, the declaration of unconditional cease-fire in Darfur and the efforts currently exerted by the State of Qatar in the context of the Arab-African initiative for solving Darfur problem. Tanzania, on its part, affirmed its commitment to support the peace process in Sudan, pointing out that the African Union is an important partner for Sudan and fully supports it. On the meeting between President Al-Bashir and his Kenyan counterpart, Mwai Kibaki, Ambassador Abdel-Halim pointed out that the meeting discussed the Sudanese-Kenyan relations and the situations in the Horn of Africa. He added that the Kenyan President expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and his support to the efforts being exerted for solution of Darfur problem. Meanwhile, the joint AU-UN Chief Mediator for Darfur Djibriel Bassole briefed President Al-Bashir on the contacts he made, especially with the armed movements in Darfur, affirming continuous coordination with the Sudanese leadership and officials. In the meantime, President Al-Bashir met at his residence Sunday with Algerian President Abdelaziz Boutaflika and discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern. BT/BT
