Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Affirms its Full Support to Sudan
Khartoum, Aug. 4 (SUNA)- The Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has affirmed its firm stance in supporting Sudan concerning the allegation of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudan's sovereignty. In a statement it issued Monday, the OIC Executive Committee called on the international community to refrain from dealing in double-standard policy with countries, and to abide by respect to Sudan's sovereignty, independence, the integrity of its territories and to avoid intervention in its internal affairs. In a telephone call with SUNA on the sidelines of his participation at the meeting of the OIC Executive Committee in Jeddah, the State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ali Karti, said that the meeting affirmed its support to Sudan efforts to realize peace and stability and to conduct national reconciliations. The OIC called on the international community to help Sudan government achieve peace and to contribute to boosting the UN and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) so as to carry out its task properly. Karti said that the participants at the meeting welcomed restoration of the diplomatic relations between Sudan and Chad. Karti indicated that he called in his address before the meeting of the OIC Executive Committee for a strong stance to be adopted against the allegations of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). He said that the meeting decided that the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will work together with the African Union, the Non-Aligned Movement and all the regional and international organizations to abort the ICC move, and to support Sudan in this regard. The OIC Executive Committee called on the envoys of the Islamic countries to New York to work for cancellation and non-repetition of the ICC allegation against Sudan, on ground that such allegations pose an unprecedented move that violates the sovereignty of countries. Meanwhile, the meeting welcomed the appointment of Djibril Bassolé as the new UN and African Union chief mediator for Darfur, hoping that his efforts will achieve success in reaching a comprehensive settlement of Darfur issue.
