Minister of Justice describes Ocampo's allegations as attempt to hijack Sudan's sovereignty

Khartoum, Aug. 6 (SUNA) - Minister of Justice Abdul-Basit Sabdarat has described the allegations by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as attempt to hijack the sovereignty of Sudan and deliberate political act aimed at inflaming the conflict in Darfur. This came in a press statement by the minister Wednesday following a deliberatory meeting that brought together former ministers, undersecretaries and general prosecutors at the Ministry of Justice. The minister said that these allegations require firm supporting stances from all the legal experts, referring to the efforts by the Sudanese Bar Union and visits by external delegations in support of Sudan. The Minister said that he provided the former ministers, undersecretaries and prosecutor generals with copies of the documents prepared by the Ministry regarding Security Council Resolutions on Sudan as well as the former decisions by the ICC in order to study them and to formulate a legal stance besides the points of views of the foreign delegations. The Minister pointed out that a chief prosecutor for the states of Darfur was appointed to investigate and take legal procedures in the crimes that took place in Darfur. MF/BT
