Khartoum Environment Declaration to be signed during Nile Basin Development Forum

 

Khartoum, Nov. 15 (SUNA) - The Khartoum Environment Declaration is to be signed during the second forum on Nile Basin development, which is to be held in Khartoum on November 17-19, with the participation of 350 experts from the countries of the Nile Basin. The forum, which is held under the motto of environment and water resources towards peace and cooperation in the Nile Basin, will discuss some 60 scientific papers. State Minister at the Ministry of Environment Teresa Sirisio affirmed the importance of the forum in coordination and cooperation between the states of the Nile Basin for development of the environmental resources, pointing out that 9 countries of the Nile Basin would sign the non binding Khartoum declaration next Tuesday. The spokesman of the forum, Engineer Salah Yousif, affirmed in a press conference at the premises of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Saturday that all preparations have been complete for holding the forum, pointing out that the forum is a scientific one and aims at exchanging of views and experiences. The Nile Basin development forum is an unofficial gathering, which is held with the participation of government experts, civil society organizations, academicians and finance institutions. The forum is convened every two years, where it was held in Addis Ababa in 2006. BT/BT
