Karti Returns Home after Visits to Czech Republic and Austria

 

Khartoum, Dec. 22 (SUNA) - The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Karti, Monday returned home after an official several-day visit to Czech Republic and Austria during which he discussed with officials there the progress of Sudan relations with their respective in the political, economic and cultural fields, especially that the Czech Republic will be the chairman of the European Union early next year, while Austria will be a non-permanent member of the Security Council. In a press statement to the press upon return at Khartoum Airport Monday, Karti said that he held meetings with a number Czech officials including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, the Deputy Foreign Minister and officials of the Czech Industrial and Trade Chamber and the Czech - Arab Chamber. He said that his visit provided opportunity to hold economic and political talks with Czech officials and to acquaint them with the situation in Sudan and the government efforts to boost the peace process and to reach solution for Darfur issue, adding that the Czech officials have shown serious desire to strengthen the relations between their country and Sudan, especially in the economic field. The minister said that he invited a number of Czech officials to visit Sudan. Karti said that he also visited Austria in response to a invitation from the Austrian Foreign Minister to participate in the Arab - European Dialogue Conference which has focused its discussion on the issues of youths, women, non-governmental organizations, inter-religious and inter-culture dialogue, democracy, human rights and freedoms. He indicated that the Arab party at the conference concentrated its discussion on the Palestinian question and the continuous Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people. Karti said that he met in Austria the deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Foreign Minister and discussed the role that can be played by Austria in support of Sudan issues at the Security Council, especially that Austria is known for its neutral stances toward the developing countries. He said that he also met during the visit with the Official of Foreign Relations at the Austrian Socialist Party and officials at the Austrian Industrial and Trade Chamber and reviewed ways to strengthen the cooperation between Sudan and Austria in the economic field. Karti said that discussed with the Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister means of reviewing and renewing the agreements between Sudan and Slovakia in the political, economic, cultural and information fields, adding that Slovakia was the first country to write off its debts to Sudan.
