Joint Defence Council and Political Commission for Cease-Fire Agreed on Coordination to Implement Security Arrangements

 

Khartoum, Nov. 19 (SUNA)- The Political Commission for Cease-Fire, the Joint Defence Council and the and the Committee for Cease-Fire Monitoring have agreed to carry out full coordination among them to implement the security arrangements properly in the context of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The meeting held at the Officers' Club Wednesday, in the presence of the representative of the UN Secretary General, Ashraf Qazi, issued a number of decisions relating to the coordination and uniting efforts to implement and monitor the cease-fire at the tension areas, provided that UNMIS is to support the efforts of the commands of the Armed Forces and Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) regarding the cease-fire, and to assist the political leadership for boosting the cease-fire process. The meeting decided to review the performance with regard to implementation of the cease-fire through holding a meeting every two or three months to remove any obstacle facing the cease-fire implementation. The meeting decided to hold an emergency meeting to discuss issues referred to it by the commission. Meanwhile, the co-chairman of the Political Commission for the Cease-Fire, Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, said in a statement to SUNA that the practical experiment proved the need for coordination between the Commission and the Joint Defence Council to observe jointly the performance of the Joint Military Committee which is affiliated administratively to the Council and receives its recommendations from the Commission. The co-chairman of the Joint Political Commission for the Cease-Fire, Paul Myom, said that the two parties will submit a report to the Presidency of the Republic on impediments facing the training of the joint integrated forces and its funding to assume its tasks in implementation of the agreement. He affirmed the importance of the meeting which will submit its recommendations to the Presidency and the two Commanders of the Armed Forces and the SPLA, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir and General Salva Kiir. The envoy of the UN Secretary General, Ashraf Qazi, called settlement of the pending issues as soon as possible. MO/MO
