Federal Ministry of Health affirms commitment to eliminate tuberculosis
Khartoum, March 24 (SUNA) - State Minister at the Federal Ministry of Health Prof. Hassan Abu-Aysha has affirmed commitment of his ministry to eliminate tuberculosis, stressing that the disease can be treated. Marking World Tuberculosis Day which the National Tuberculosis Combating Programme organized at the Martyr Al-Zubair Conference Centre Monday, Prof. Abu-Aysha explained that the disease treatment that used to last for two years is now achieved in only six months, pointing to the importance of giving concern to women and youth sectors. Khartoum State Acting Wali (Governor) and Minister of Health Barmina Oryal called for implementation of tuberculosis disease treatment system in Khartoum State in all states of Sudan. Secretary General of the Sudanese Women General Union Raja Hassan Khalifa affirmed commitment of the Sudanese women to combat the disease through their various networks. Meanwhile, Director of the National Tuberculosis Combating Programme Dr. Hashim Suleiman reviewed the strategy of the programme for combating the disease. The representative of WHO underlined importance of commitment by governments and the society to eliminate tuberculosis, pointing out that the current year would witness establishment of regional partnership for supporting tuberculosis elimination programme.
