John Owoeri restored the lead for Enyimba against Al Hilal
Two-times African champions Enyimba claimed a crushing victory over Al Hilal on Monday to go to the top of Group B with just one game to go.

The so-called "People's Elephant" beat their Sudanese visitors 4-1 in a game which had been held over from the weekend because of a waterlogged pitch.

Prolific striker Stephen Worgu opened the scoring in the 4th minute of the game.

He now has 13 goals in this campaign and is the Champions League's top scorer.

It remained 1-0 until half-time, but Hilal were reduced to 10 men with five minutes to the break when Saif Masawi was sent off.

Far from capitulating straight after the break, the Sudanese levelled the score with a stunning 30-yard strike from Mohammed El Tahir on 57 minutes.

But then the floodgates opened.

Three minutes after Tahir's goal, Enyimba's John Owoeri restored the Nigerian advantage.

And Stephen Worgu turned from goalscorer to provider for the last two strikes, as he set up both Ezenwa Otorogu and Emeka Akueme.

Enyimba now have nine points from their five games, two ahead of TP Mazembe and Coton Sport.

The final games of the group stage take place at the weekend.

Only Al Ahly have made sure of their place in semi-finals and no team has yet been ruled out of a place in the last four. undefined undefined
