Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council agrees with AU Security Council on Reactivation of Ceasefire

 

Khartoum, Nov. 18 (SUNA) - Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA), agreed with the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU) to reactivate the cease-fire in Darfur in coordination with the armed movements, as well as working to complete the UNAMID troops and establish early warning centres in Darfur. This was announced by the Secretary General of the Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council, Mubarak Hamid Ali, who was speaking at the regular press forum of Sudan News Agency (SUNA) Tuesday. Ali said that a delegation of the Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council discussed with the AU Peace and Security Council the security situation in Darfur following the authorization given to the Senior Assistant of the President to embark on a dialogue with the armed movements in Darfur. He enumerated the objectives of the visit to the premises of the Peace and Security Council for exchanging views in the fields of cooperation and coordination regarding the peace process in Darfur, expansion of peace and mobilizing support to the peace agreement in Darfur via Darfur-Darfur dialogue. The Secretary General of the Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council explained that the Chairman of African Union Peace and Security Commission, Ramadan Al Amamrah, welcomed the outcome of the national Forum of People of Sudan on Darfur Issue. Ali said that during their visit to Addis Ababa, the delegation discussed with the African Economic Committee at the UN assessment of the situation in Darfur and support to the projects being implemented by the Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council. Meanwhile, Director of the Department of African Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Abdul Karim, said the tripartite mechanism of Sudan, the United Nations and the African Union is working to deploy some 80% of the UNAMID troops by the end of next March. The Advisor of Darfur Peace and Reconciliation Council, Dr. Yousif Bakhit, called for the unity of the Darfurian rank, explaining that around 700,000 families were affected by the conflict in Darfur, 500,000 families of them are in 37 displaced people camps, 200,000 turned to be refugees in the neighboring countries and 200,000 familes moved to various cities in Sudan. The Director of the Reconciliation Department at the Council of Peace and Reconciliation in Darfur, Hussen Abakar Salih, reviewed the efforts being carried out by the council for conducting tribal reconciliations in collaboration with the local authorities in Darfur states toward maintaining the social fabric in of Darfur region.
