Chinese Envoy Begins Visit to Sudan
Khartoum, Aug. 29 (SUNA) - The Chinese envoy for Sudan has expressed his country's concern over the move of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir. In a statement to SUNA upon arrival at Khartoum Airport Friday evening, the Chinese envoy said that the conduct of the ICC prosecutor, Luis Morno-Ocampo, is not for the interest of the efforts to achieve peace in Darfur, and will further complicate Darfur issue. The Chinese envoy said that will exert efforts will all the Sudanese, regional and international parties to realize solution for Darfur issue. He explained that his current visit to Sudan comes in the context of the continuing consultations and coordination between Sudan and China and aims to discuss issues relating to reactivation of the process for realizing peace in Sudan. Meanwhile, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mutrif Siddiq, who received the Chinese envoy at Khartoum Airport, said that the Chinese envoy will discuss ways to boost the peace efforts in Darfur, reactivating the deployment of the hybrid forces and providing appropriate atmosphere for the voluntary return of the displaced people to their home areas and providing stability and peace in Darfur. Dr. Siddiq said that the Chinese envoy's visit also comes in the context of China's concern with consolidating its distinguished ties with Sudan and its active role at the international and regional levels toward the prevalence of peace in Sudan.
