Bangladeshi officer dies in Sudan traffic accident
Friday, August 29, 2008

KHARTOUM, Sudan: A U.N.-operated radio says a Bangladeshi observer was killed and nine other officers injured in a traffic accident in southern Sudan.

The Miraya radio quotes Steven Giwa of the U.N. mission in southern Sudan as saying the accident occurred when the Bangladeshi battalion's vehicle overturned on a road about 50 miles, or 80 kilometers, from the southern city of Juba.

Giwa says three of the injured were in critical condition. The body of the deceased observer is to be flown home Friday evening. No further details were available.

In southern Sudan, the U.N. mission monitors a 3-year-old peace agreement that ended two decades of civil war between the north and south. The deal established a unity government but key issues remain unresolved.
