The final resting place of eight Australian airmen killed in Sudan during World War II will be the scene of a Remembrance Day ceremony.
Australian defence personnel, serving with the United Nations in Sudan, will take part in a commemorative service at the Khartoum War Cemetery on Tuesday.
Between 1941 and August 1944, eight members of the Royal Australian Air Force died in Sudan from accidents involving the transfer of Royal Air Force aircraft in the region.
There are currently 17 defence personnel serving with Operation Azure, the Australian support role in the UN's African Union Mission in Darfur.
Australia's history of military operations in Sudan dates back to 1885 when the then NSW colony sent more than 750 soldiers to the port city of Suakin following the siege of British-held Khartoum.
