Armed Forces repulses heinous attack by Sudan Liberation Movement Unity at Al-Halaf area in North Darfur

Khartoum, Nov. 20 (SUNA) - The Armed Forces repulsed a heinous attack by Sudan Liberation Movement Unity at Al-Halaf area in North Darfur State Thursday morning, inflicting heavy casualties in the aggressors. The Office of the Spokesman of the Armed Forces pointed out in statement it issued Thursday that six landcruiser vehicles of the aggressors were destroyed and two others seized in good conditions. The statement said the casualties of the aggressors numbered 30 killed and a big number wounded. It pointed out that the casualties of the Armed Forces were one martyr and two wounded. The statement said the hostile act came after a series of security violations by the rebel movements in Darfur following the declaration by the President of the Republic of unconditional cease-fire, with the aim of compelling the Armed Forces to retaliate, citing that on November 13 a group from Sudan Liberation Movement led by rebel Hamad Shatta looted four trucks loaded with relief materials on Babanusa-Dain road and that a rebel group at Teina area claimed on November 15 that it wanted to surrender itself and their vehicles to the government and asked for a military delegation to negotiate with them and when the delegation went to them they opened fire on it killing an officer and wounding two personnel and seized a landcruiser car. The statement went on to say that on November 16 a police force in South Darfur State was attacked by a rebel group, killing an officer at the rank of captain and wounding one person and 8 personnel were missing. The statement affirmed that the Armed Forces, being responsible for defending the security of the homeland and the citizens, will respond strongly against any one who attempts to undermine the security and safety of the citizens in Darfur and elsewhere and that the Armed Forces will continue to pursue thieves and the armed robbers who continue to be a nightmare for the innocent people in Darfur. The statement affirmed that the Armed Forces is keen not to carry out military operations that inflict harms on the citizens, and that the cease-fire do not include self-defence and pursuing the armed robbers who seize relief vehicles and properties of the citizens traveling on roads and other criminal acts.
