Arab League to Call on Security Council to Halt Measures Adopted in Framework of its Resolution 1593
Cairo, July 23 (SUNA)- The Arab League Wednesday announced that it will call on the Security Council to halt the measures which its has adopted in the framework of its resolution 1593 and its implications to support the endeavours of the Arab League, the African Union and Sudan government to reach solution for Darfur issue. In a statement it issued Wednesday, the Arab League stated that the contacts and consultations conducted by the league's Secretary General, Amro Musa, in Khartoum lately with the President of the Republic, the Vice - President, senior officials, leaders of the opposition and representatives of tribes in Darfur resulted in agreement to give priority to the peaceful settlement for Darfur issue, reactivation of the efforts to carry out the political solution initiative of the Sudanese national forces, surpassing the obstacles facing the participation of the armed movements in the endeavours to reach political and solution for Darfur issue without pre-conditions and on the basis of Darfur peace agreement and through utilization of efforts of the neighbouring countries for settlement of Darfur issue. The Arab League affirmed importance of support to the role of the UN and African Union Mission (UNAMID) and providing it with the required means to carry out its task. It also underscored the importance of the tripartite cooperation between the government of Sudan, the African Union and the United Nations concerning delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Darfur, as well as continuation of the Sudanese Judiciary to its role to carry out investigation on claims of crimes in Darfur.
