American Envoy for Sudan to begin Week-long visit on Friday
Khartoum, Aug. 8 (SUNA)- The special envoy for Sudan, Richard Williamson is due to begin Friday a week-long visit to Sudan during which he will hold talks with a number of senior officials and pay visits to Juba, Abyei and Darfur. In a statement to SUNA, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, said that the talks between the American envoy and the Sudanese officials would tackle pending issues in the bilateral relations between Sudan and the United States, the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the situation in Abyei area following the agreement reached the two partners, the issue in Darfur in the political and humanitarian axes and the peace-keeping process. Meanwhile, the Director of the American Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdul-Basit Al-Sanousi, said that the American envoy's visit provides opportunity for the two parties to identify the stances of each other concerning the allegations of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as well as the contradiction in the American attitude concerning the ICC issue at the Security Council. SUNA learned that the American special envoy for Sudan would visit Chad and Addis Ababa, to discuss the Sudanese - Chadian relations, before his arrival in Khartoum. MO/MO
