Supporting DPA

Al-Fashir town witnessed last Friday an important meeting between the Vice President of the Republic Ali Osman Mohammad Taha and the Senior Presidential Assistant, Minni Minnawi to discuss the implementation of Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA).

The meeting took place in the presence of members of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA) and a number of federal ministers.
In a communiqu released at the end of the meeting, Taha and Minnawi reiterated their commitment to the DPA and agreed to move forward in order to enforce it within one month maximum.

The parties said they agreed to form a joint military committee to coordinate the security activities and to ensure halting of hostilities between them.
The most important item is that the DPA is to be included in the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of Sudan.

Another important point is the agreement on working together to bring the non-signatory movements round the negotiations table

The meeting represented an opportunity to remove any misunderstanding   between the GoNU and SLM (Minnawi faction); besides affirming the latter's return to Khartoum within the coming days.

He further expected that the Senior Presidential Assistant would be in his office in Khartoum in the coming days.

The document signed between the two peace partners will lead to reactivation of the DPA and, of course, comes within the shuttle movements taking place these days to reach of peaceful settlement to the Darfur crisis.
We hope that non-signatory rebel factions will resort to reason and declare their desire to negotiate peace to end the suffering of their people.
