NGOK WILL GO TO NGOL, ABYEI

By Akol Meyan Kuol

Peace has been negotiated,
And has been documented,
And peace has been reached;
It was settled by African Countries.

And John Garang de Mabior said:
You, the children of Abyei,
You, Abyei, the homeland of the south,
Peace has prevailed in your homeland,
And you will go to Ngol,
We will go to Ngol,
And we will be calling each and every,
Village by its name.
We will be calling each and every,
Village by its name.

We will go to Ngol,
We will go to Ngol,
Of Mabek, Makuej,
Arukdul and a village,
Called Rum-Wut.

Rum-Wut is called,
Rum-Wut;
We have called it by its name.

Note: I recorded this song during my visit to my homeland, Abyei, last month. I met Ngok women in Todaj, Abyei and they sang this song. That was my first visit to Abyei Town after 22 years.
I was moved by the song; and that is why I decided to translate it and share it with those who do not speak Ngok Dinka Language.
Ngok women and Ngok people in general had high hopes in the late Sudanese leader Dr. John Garang de Mabior. However, nine Ngok Chiefdoms of Abyei are still having hope in the First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, President of the Government of Southern Sudan and Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the SPLM/A Commander Salva Kiir Mayardit and the SPM/A in general.
