Government Suggests Joint Administration for Abyei Area

Tokyo, May 30 (SUNA) - President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, disclosed that the government has suggested establishment of a joint administration for Abyei area. At a press conference he held in Tokyo by the end of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Friday in Tokyo, President Al-Bashir said that the First Vice - President of the Republic and President of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), Salva Kiir, and the Vice - President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, are discussing the proposal of a joint administration for Abyei area. President Al-Bashir referred to the difference between the government and Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Abyei borders of the year 1905, indicating that the experts failed to determine these borders and draw the relevant maps. He pointed out the experts' report has spoken about settlement of the Dinka tribe in Abyei area in the year 1965, therefore the government rejected the report, and thus Abyei issue remained unsettled.
