Presidential Press Secretary Hopes European Union will Play More Positive Role and Abandon Method of Threats
Khartoum, Jan. 23 (SUNA)- The Presidential Press Secretary, Mahjoub Fadul Badri, affirmed that the foreign threats can never compel the government to relinquish its commitments and duties toward its nation. This came in a press statement of Badri in response to threats of the European Union to impose sanctions on Sudan if did not accept deployment of international forces. He said that Sudan was hoping that the European Union would play a more positive role instead of continuous threats. He indicated that Sudan was expecting the European Union to urge the donors to fulfill their commitments to boost the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement rather than resorting to the method of threats. Badri said that Sudan is not astonished over the continuous targeting against it, adding that Sudan is always keen to be an effective member in the international community through its affiliation to all the regional and international organizations. He reiterated Sudan keenness to reach a peaceful solution for Darfur issue, stressing that Darfur crisis can never be solved by force. He said that the crisis in Darfur can only be solved through dialogue, reactivating the peace agreement, providing services and realization of sustainable development to boost the voluntary repatriation of the displaced people and refugees to contribute to the development, security and peace process in Darfur. The President's Press Secretary inquired about the significance of the European threats in a time when Sudan has declared its commitment to the plan of the UN Secretary General with its three packages. He expressed his hope that the parties that refused to sign Darfur peace agreement will join the process for realization of stability and security in Darfur. MO/MO
