26 political parties and associations launch call for release of Sami Al-Haj
Khartoum, Jan. 20 (SUNA)- The Commission of Political Parties and Associations, which comprises 26 political parties and associations, has launched a call on the Sudanese nation, international organizations, political parties, civil society organizations and the government of national unity to demand the release of the Sudanese camera-man Sami Al-Haj, who has remained detained at US Guantanamo base. It called in a statement on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work at all forums for the release of Sami Al-Haj or presenting him before a just trial, urging the UN to activate the principles of the international legitimacy of human rights to end the suffering of the detainee. The commission said in its statement that the international legitimacy of human rights and the international convention on the civil and political rights of the UN affirm that every person has the right of freedom and personal security and that he shall not be arbitrary detained and that every person detained under any charge shall be brought before a court quickly or released. The statement pointed out that detention of Al-Haj for more than five years without trial or releasing him constitutes a violation to his rights and deprivation him of his right to be treated in accordance with the principle of human dignity. The commission pointed in its statement that the effects of the long and unjustified detention of Al-Haj have extended to his family, a matter which is considered as flagrant violation to the principles of human rights.
