Gedi, along with members of his cabinet ministers, is due to confer with Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir over Somalia’s political events and the African troop deployment.
The government’s spokesperson Abdirahman Dinari has told Shabelle in Mogadishu that the premier’s visit to Khartoum does not involve in any talks between the defunct Islamists and the transitional federal government.
Members of Islamist Courts, which once controlled most south of Somalia, are reported to be lingering in Sana, Yemeni capital.
There has been an international pressure on the Somali government to let the moderate Islamists like Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, who is reportedly in Nairbi, play positive roles in the government.
President Yusuf and premier Gedi announced they would not negotiate with Islamist leaders. “The government will track down Islamic Courts leaders because they have harbored “international terrorists” in Somalia, so we will put them on trial once we capture them”, he said.
Reports also say that Gedi will meet with Arab and African ambassadors in the Sudanese capital Khartoum over Somalia’s interest in peacekeeping troops for the war-torn country.
Ethiopian premier Males Zenawi declared on Friday that his government was determined to withdraw the thousands of Ethiopian troops from Somalia.
Analysts say remnants and supporters of Islamists in the country will leave no stone unturned to crush the interim government when a vacuum of power emerged after the departure of Ethiopians and before the arrival of the expected African peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
Several explosions against government and Ethiopian forces in the capital occurred in the past 12 hours. At least four people were killed and more than 10 were wounded, witnesses confirmed to Shabelle. |
