Re: صفحات هامة من تاريخ السودان.. قصة الدستور... والتداعيات (Re: Yasir Elsharif)

Dear Yasir, My late father ( may Allah bless his soul) used to give me flashes from the Sudanese history around the independence since I was in primary school. He liked some politicians and gave them credit for what they did. Early in the intermediate school I realised that certain events around the period must have been the cause of the rapid decline in Sudan. My father did not only fail to prove me wrong, but he also failed to prove otherwise. As time passed and I started to read articles such of those of Dr. F. Deng and Dr. M. Khalid, a feeling of satisfaction filled my young brain: The failure of the pioneer Sudanese elites was the direct cause of what we are seeing now. Now, what was the cause of that failure? A- Could it have been the fact that the majority of those elites were mere bureaucrats trained to help the British in controlling and governing the country in stead of the Egyptians? That, they were not actually intellectuals who could understand the immediate as well as the future consequences of the dictions they took!. I can proof that this is exactly the case in the deterioration of civil services, but could it have been the same for the political process? B- The period of independence was not long after the end of World War 2, with all the turmoil in politics, economy and social ideas internationally, regionally and locally. Is that a good excuse for the misdeeds of those elites. C- Was it the psychological build up of the Sudanese personally with all its complicated nature of irrationality, double morality, loss of common sense and the believe in myth. Yes, Zien AL Abdeen Abdel Tam had a psychological problem, as did Almahjood and Hassan Bashir Nasr in their destructive and bloody war against the South. I think this approach to the Sudanese politics should be sought by researchers. Personally, I believe A and C, jointly, could give a good explanation for what happened then, and why is it happing now.
