Our dear Sudanese friends
Last Saturday, 19 August, the Elhag family and local Sudanese friends invited my family and me to a time together in a beautiful park in the northern part of Virginia, U.S.A. We were told that a friend of the Elhag family (Alsawi) wanted to present a token of appreciation to my wife Wendy and me in relation to the kidney transplant (the second anniversary was this July). What a wonderful surprise our friends had in store for us!
We received several gifts for which we are very grateful to all. One of the gifts, however, touched us very deeply (I had to struggle a little to keep my tears from showing), it was a large laminated postcard with many, many loving messages of appreciation, of thanks, and of gratitude, from all of you!! Your messages in English and Arabic made our hearts rejoice with the knowledge of your love. Love does transcend culture, language, religion, race and any other potential separating fence, doesn't it?. (The messages in Arabic were kindly translated, each and every one of them, to us by Nadya, Ibrahim's sister in law.
There are experiences that leave everlasting footprints in our lives. The transplant was one of them; your gratitude and words of friendship, so nicely capture in the postcard, is another one. We wish we could embrace each of you and let you know how much your kindness means to us. May it be in God's will that one day we can meet face to face.
My wife and I are very grateful to the Elhag family, to Noureldaim, to Nasim, to the ladies whose names escape me but who worked very hard in their kitchens, to all those who came to say Hello! (forgive me for not remembering all the names), to Alsawi and his family for putting all the kind words from all of you together and for traveling a long distance to be with us and bring your words to us; and to all of you Sudanese people around the world, whose kind hearts are the hope of The Sudan, and who are now our friends! May God bless you all; may God bless The Sudan!
