Quote: LDP proposed Solutions: • In the event that the current Arab spring and the wake of the democracy and civil rights in Middle East, the LDP emphasizes that the civil resistance against the Sudanese regime should continue and that the backup for the regime by some regional alliances should stop immediately. • LDP calls upon all the oppositional Parties to stop all attempts at trying to undermine each other politically. In fact, LDP recognizes two types of oppositional groups (Armed and Unarmed), although the armed groups often times try to impose its war agendas as the only solution to the Sudanese crisis. • LDP stresses its commitment towards the unity of all the opposition forces, especially the unity among real democratic parties, youth and civil rights’ groups. It also declares its support to any serious steps towards building up a modern civil democratic front to address the substantive underlying crisis in Sudan. LDP has already taking serious moves to promote this position through the release of its strategy on "Comprehensive National Vision" of 9 July 2011, which proposes the formation of a wide democratic national consensus among various political and social groups and institutions. • Despite the party’s long-standing concept from rejecting the use of violent means to achieve political change in Sudan, LDP agrees with the objectives and principles mentioned in the Political Declaration of the "Sudanese Revolutionary Front" , as well as with its aspiration to overthrow the one-party system and build a pluralist democracy in Sudan. LDP position from the SRF comes under the party’s realization and respect of all the aspects of the accumulated political disappointments which made some political groups seek violent means against the dictator regime in Sudan. However, LDP works fundamentally in orienting, organizing and advocating for the use of political nonviolent methods to achieve a long-lasting change and sustainable liberal democracy for all the Sudanese people. • LDP emphasizes the effectiveness of democratic and youth forces in North and Central Sudan as one of the strongest means for change, and the need to disseminate and promote the popular non-violent resistance in these areas. In this regard LDP will continue the struggle to coordination more with its allies in the "Modern Democratic Forces Alliance", as well as with the youth movements and other the social forces to achieve new balance of civil power against the repression policies of the regime in the urban areas of Sudan. • LDP calls for more coordinated activities among “the forces of peaceful change”, as well as with the armed revolutionary movements under a Joint National Charter, in order to build consensus among the Sudanese oppositional parties and avoid dragging the country into tribal and racial alliances and pressure groups. LDP is highly concerned about the regime's policies of “divide and rule” which have already created sharp divisions and devastating tribal clashes among the regional communities across the conflict affected areas in Sudan. LDP calls for special protection to be provided to save the regional communities and individuals from the intentional killing and displacement through various governmental policies. LDP, therefore, emphasizes the humanitarian and protection needs of the conflict affected communities in Sudan through the increase of the humanitarian relief operations, as well as through declaring the areas of Nuba Mountains, Bule Nile and Darfur to be no-fly zones. • LDP calls on all the oppositional forces to seriously adopt realistic methods and adequate means to address the substantive issues underlying disputes and achieve political change in Sudan. LDP, therefore, requesting all the parties to actively engage in serious discussions on the issues of public concern, including the transitional phase follows the regime change; the establishment of a Shadow Government and the plan to protect the civilians and mitigate the grievances. This could be accomplished through an extended conference for all the opposition groups (armed and non-armed) which should be used as a venue to unify the national objectives and adopt the tactical/Strategic steps toward the collective national goals. • LDP believes that the legitimacy for representation comes from the Sudanese people who suffer a lot from the failure of the political system for decades. As an initial testimony to this renewed commitment the Parties should officially state they recognize and respect each other views and means, as well as putting the actual demands of the Sudanese people in the top of their political agendas. • The LDP fully recognizes that the political, security, social and economic landscapes in Sudan have changed since South Sudan’s Independence. Accordingly, LDP understands the importance of dealing with the political issues in Sudan from a national perspective so as to secure a comprehensive and lasting political solution that agreed upon by all the different oppositional groups (armed and unarmed). • The LDP relies completely on organizing the Sudanese people (individuals and civil societies) to lead the up-raising against the regime. For this cause, the LDP works on supporting the efforts to disseminate and advocate for democracy and good-governance for the up-coming generations in Sudan. The LDP believes in creating leadership from within the grass-roots communities to attain real change.
