MARGINALIZED SUDANESE TO CALL FOR DEMOCRATIC TRANSFORMATION At UN Rally, Diaspora and Rights Advocates Decry Regime’s Atrocities, Call for Change
As the government of Sudan wages a brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing in multiple regions of the country, Sudanese people in the United States and Canada will rally on behalf of the 85% of Sudan’s population who are oppressed and marginalized. Members of the diaspora and human rights advocates will call for the international community to help end over two decades of genocide and atrocities committed by the government against civilians, and help end the oppressive and criminal regime of President Al-Bashir. Recently, the Government of Sudan has attacked civilians on a mass scale in the Nuba Mountains and attacked civilians in Blue Nile, sparking war in that region.
In Egypt, Syria, and Libya, the U.S. and Europe are actively supporting processes, efforts, and institutions aimed at creating democratic governments that can help bring peace, development and security to those countries. The people of Sudan, who have been victimized by years of ongoing genocide by their own government, certainly deserve no less.
The Sudanese government of President Al-Bashir has carried out genocide and crimes against humanity over the last two decades in the regions of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, South Sudan, Eastern Sudan, and Blue Nile. These ongoing atrocities are dramatically underreported since the government brutally represses political opponents, the media, and free expression by members of civil society.
Please join this rally to call on the international community to assist in paving the way for a democratic, peaceful transformation bringing justice, equality, and the rule of law to Sudan, and for full recognition and respect for its ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. The rally will coincide with the UN General Assembly attended by ######### of state from around the world.
