Your Excellencies:
RE: Abdelmagid Salih Abaker Haroun, Imprisoned Darfurian Human Rights Activist
Our request comes to you with respect and a sincere belief that you will use all available means to come to the aid of Mr. Haroun, a 28-year-old resident of El Geneina, and his unnamed colleague reportedly arrested on Sunday, August 30, 2009, in Khartoum, who are being held in communicado.
A well-known human rights activist who has bravely alerted the world about atrocities occurring in Darfur and Khartoum, Mr. Haroun’s pursuers, identified as security agents, were noticed following him. Mr. Salih was last seen as he was heading to keep an appointment with Darfurian rape victims. Several Sudanese human rights activists have indicated their anxiety as to the well being of Mr. Haroun and his companion; indeed, are concerned about their very lives as the Government of Sudan enjoys a reputation of dispensing cruel and inhumane treatment upon certain prisoners.
Although Mr. Haroun and his companion (to the best of our knowledge) are not United States citizens, we implore that you will recognize their place in the human family and use the enviable power of your positions to speak on their behalf.
Thank you.
Sincerely, bcf Blanche Foster Acting Executive Director on behalf of
