عضوية الحركة تفوق المليون فى ولاية الوحدة SPLM membership in Unity State hits 1 million | Print | Wednesday, 06 May 2009 16:28 UNITY (May 6, 2009) – The number of registered SPLM members has reached over a million, with more and more people signing up for party membership each day, said Unity State Secretary Tor Tungwar Kueiguong.
Comrade Kueiguong made the announcement during a visit to Mayom County, the second leg of his tour of the nine states of Unity State to enlighten the masses about the SPLM and its programs.
In late April, the SPLM launched a campaign to mobilize support for the party ahead of next year’s general elections.
Cde Kueiguong begun his campaign by visiting Abiemnon County, where he held a political rally that focused on explaining the SPLM’s vision and mission and creating awareness about the elections.
The State Secretary plans to also visit, among others, Parieng, Guit, Koch Mayandit and Panjiar counties.
“The purpose of the visit is to tour the counties on the progress of the SPLM activities,” he said in a statement addressed to the county secretariats ahead of his tour.
Cde Kueiguong and members of his team will meet with SPLM leaders in these counties and confer with Liberation Councils and Executive and Legislative Caucuses in all of the nine counties of Unity State.
In Mayom, the State Secretary emphasized the need for all eligible voters to participate fully in the forthcoming general elections, saying the SPLM has resolved to contest at all levels including the presidency.
The SPLM, he pointed, enjoyed popular support in Unity State, adding that this was clear from the growing number of people come to sign up for membership.
Cde Kueiguong’s activities in the nine counties of Unity State was expected to lay the ground work for the visit to the state of a team from the SPLM General Secretariat led by Cde Acuil Malith.
Cde Malith, also the secretary for Popular and Syndicated Organizations was assigned by Southern Sector Deputy Secretary General Cde Anne Itto to lead the SPLM’s mobilization campaign in the Greater Upper Nile region.
Cde Malith and his colleagues left Juba for Malakal on May 6, 2009, the first leg of a three-week long “Taking SPLM to every hut and heart” campaign that will also take them to Unity and Jonglei states.
“Taking SPLM to every hut and heart” campaign is aimed at taking SPLM messages of liberation, achievements, challenges and plans from SPLM leadership, as well as information on the coming elections, through SPLM structures and institutions to every Boma in the Southern Sector states and the Abyei Area.
