What I am writing is not about Eltayeb Mustafa but rather about your issue of separating Sudan. I do not know Mr. Mustafa so I can not comment about him. However, once you commented on the issue of Darfur and actually encouraged the people to seek independence from Sudan after you have seen dire miseries and sufferings during the 1982-1985 famine in the west. Was that a call for separation or I am mistaken! Can you clarify this stand.
Now talking about separation or union in Sudan is rather a complex issue. Mustafa or else or anyone in Sudan has the right to express what he see fit. I think there should be no more taboos in Sudanese politics and that we have to take things by default that separation is bad and unity is good. Separation has its advantages and disadvantages but so is unity too. When someone calls for unity or separation people should discuss the issue from the perespective of what is good and what is bad for the country, let us not take things by assumption as each has it merits and demerits. People take decision of unity or separation based on their economic, social, political and also ethnic interests. Very likely any decision will for sure touch on the above rationals. People in Sudan are not all the same and hence the above factors will influence the outcome of any such issue. For example some south sudanese publically state their desries to separate from Sudan and make up their own country. We do not go and call them bad people but rather look at their arguements and see if that make sense. Similarly people from the north, east or west can also call to break up the country based on their own reasons and there is nothing wrong on that. You might differ alot with Mustafa becuase he is a kooz but his call for separation is also echoed by many other non northern sudanese whom you probably presume are not politically different than you. If you were to put forward your arguements against the guy better be on his lack of respect of freedom of expression
