Delirium

Delirium speaks to the intersecting routes of dispersal. It commemorates the struggle of refugees, immigrants, and other diaspora population as they cross borders into new lands. It celebrates their resilience and their ability to overcome the boundedness of cultures and identities, despite surveillance at checkpoints and border control, passports and even the demands for fingerprints
The installation of fingerprints here are part of over 300 stamps collected from acquaintances and friends of African, Middle Eastern, Asian, European, and American background. The genealogy of each fingerprint, however, transcends the geography of their continental locales. The colors used for painting over the fingerprints are inspired by the different skin tones that people in different locations use to identify themselves or to racialize others, such as using the skin color red, brown, wheat, yellow, green, blue-black (in Sudan), or white-black-yellow (in America). Despite the variations among these colored fingerprints, their similarities lie in their humanness, yet also speak of unsettled differences.

الفنان نفيد نور،
Naveed Nour was born 1963 in Cologne Germany to Iranian parents. In 1971 he
moved with his family to Iran. In 1983 Naveed entered the Photography
Program at Tehran University's School of Fine Arts. While studying, he
traveled throughout Iran including the war-zones during the 1980-1988
Iran/Iraq war and documented the social-economical affects of war on
society. In 1985 Naveed left Iran for Ankara, Turkey where he lived and
worked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In 1987 he
moved to Ottawa Canada, where he later earned his BFA in Photography from
the University of Ottawa. The same year he received recognition for his body
of work at the Annual Arts Awards event from his university. In 1992 he
moved to America to pursue his career in photography but ended up working in
Information Technology, and later earned his Master's degree in Management
of e-Commerce. As a dedicated artist Naveed pursued his artwork
independently throughout his career in technology and kept exhibiting his
work. In June 2007 he switched his career back to fine arts and together
with his wife Zohreh Firouzabadian founded PhotoEmerge, an organization that
is dedicated to helping emerging photographers grow artistically while also
learning how to set goals for their careers and promote themselves. Naveed
is currently a lecturer at Mass College of Art and Design. He also actively
curates exhibits for local and international artists in the Boston region.
Parallel to all his activities he is still working on his art projects,
while he also collaborates with artists around the world. His work is being
exhibited both in North America and in Europe, while it is also being
collected internationally. Naveed is based in Boston, USA.

Academic Profile
Charles A. Meyer, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Film and Photography, has been an active member of the Fine Arts faculty for over 20 years. He currently teaches a wide range of production courses including Photography I, Photography II, Photography III, and Documentary Photography. He has also held appointments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Hampshire College, and was the Harnish Visiting Artist in Photography at Smith College.
His photographs have been exhibited by numerous museums and galleries, including the Addison Gallery of American Art; the McMullen Museum of Art, where he has also curated exhibitions on Photography; the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston; and the UNESCO Gallery in Paris. His filmography includes Civil War and Baseball by Ken Burns, and recent projects on Conflict Resolution.

"Michalczyk is an accomplished and highly-regarded filmmaker, who has focused on social justice. Herman, Hilliard and Michalczyk all believe that the message to be gained from the new film is that ordinary people exerting extraordinary efforts can make a difference. For his part, Michalczyk said he hopes that the film will inspire viewers to emulate Herman and Hilliard, who 'looked at human beings who were suffering, waded through all the paperwork, all the rules and regulations and changed the world.'"

Displaced: Miracle at St. Ottilien (2002; 47 minutes) is a documentary based on the true experiences of US Army privates Edward Herman and Robert Hilliard, who were stationed in Germany at the close of World War II. They discovered the horrendous treatment of displaced Jews in St. Ottilien, a camp run by the US military. In an effort to alleviate the suffering, the two GIs stole food from their own mess hall and smuggled it into the camp. Then the two soldiers started a letter writing campaign which caught the attention of President Harry Truman, who ordered an investigation which led to the end to the abuse. The film is based on a memoir written by Mr. Hilliard. The world premiere, attended by Mr. Hilliard and survivors of St. Ottilien, was held at the Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in November 2002. A New England premiere was held at Boston College in February 2003 and was attended by Mr. Hilliard. It was recently featured at the Toronto and Boston Jewish Film Festivals.
