    During my last year's visit to Sudan I discussed with many members of the Community Party why investing a lot of resources and $$ to re-publish al-Midan is not a priority for the party at this specific time. I'm still not convinced. However, I welcome this important news.

    I also agree with what has been said on the appointment of ustaz/Tigani Eltayeb for the Editor in-Chief job. First it's unfair for the man to put this huge burden on his tiring shoulders again!

    The man said it many times publicly that he needs to retire ...Secondly, the party's membership is rich with cadres that can take the job and deal with the new technology in the field.

    Thirdly: Al-midan is not only to represent the CP line per se. It should reflect the grassroots movement around the party and other political movement in the country. In the last election of 1986, approximately 64,000 voted for the Communist Party. This base of the party should have say in editing their newspaper.

    I would encourage all of us here on the Board to support Almidan by contributing and critiquing its content. A healthy partisan media means a healthy political atmosphere.

    I suggest that the new Midan should:

    * Hire more diverse reporters and writers
    * Bring more young staff from the age group 25-35
    * Bring the real voice of the 92% who live under the poverty line
    * Have the voice of the people in the slums heard, not only those 3 millions live around Khartoum, but also those other major cities.
    * Bring the voice of the Internally Displaced People, IDP
    *Have a regular coverage on refugee stats inside Sudan and outside Sudan. Ugandan, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Chadian and DRC refugees should be a focus for the publication. These countries and others were hosting us for the past 3 decades.
    * Involve the community in the publishing process by inviting, on a regular basis, members of target groups to the daily Editorial Meeting (we developed many contacts with US newspaper by participating in their Editorial meetings).
    * Create a regular Blog review and other Internet activism outlets.

    And of course the list is longer...
