Brother Osama, Unfortunately you continue your reflexive assessment of the SPLM and its leadership without any objective assessment of what they say. Your summation of Pagan's speech is nothing close to what he meant or wanted to outline in his assessment of the situation in Sudan.
Firstly, before we even go deeper into the crux of your diatribe (using epithets like New Kabilas and greedy politicians ), it is important that someone points out to you that there is a real and physically discernable and provable peace prevailing now in Southern Sudan, The Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile, as a result of the landmark Comprehensive Peace Agreement that you continually bash and denigrate on Sudaneseonline. This PEACE is experienced by millions of our people who were once slaughtered in the streets of Juba and mercilessly bombed from the sky by the Sudanese Army. If you are half the concern activist that you claim to be, you will not call this an imaginary or non-existent peace. You would recognize that singular divident for your fellow sudanese in those areas. Nonetheless, you cannot even see that simple reality because you are blinded by your narrow-minded comprehension of the Sudanese problem as being about power and governance, and that your imagined "Contractors", the SPLM have failed you and your traditional parties by signing an agreement that did not uproot the INGAZ from power and put you guys back on the throne like it was before the eve of June, 30th, 1989.
You need to snap out of that fantasy and face the reality that the agreement was negotiated by foes at an impasse, and was not dictated by a victorious party. Moreover, the SPLM has endeavored to make sure that the CPA included provisions allowing all of us, including you and your traditional parties, the chance to compete for power in a transparent and open manner. It fought and won the battle for an interim constitution that is the most liberal in the entire history of post independence Sudan. It is now our collective responsibility to ensure that the agreement and the constitution is fully implemented, and that is no easy task if you are facing a group that has monopolized power over 17 years and were only reluctantly forced to sign the CPA.
That is why it is a tragedy to see self-styled democrats like you expend all their energy against the SPLM instead of joining the struggle for the full implementation of the CPA. The CPA is not just the provisions for self-determination and resource sharing with the South, but it also encompasses the bill of rights, a comprehensive reform of the civil service, balanced development all over the country, and most importantly, free and fair elections in 2008 and beyond. Where are your footprints in the struggle for the implementation of these provisions, beyond daily yapping and insults at the SPLM and its leaders for pointing out difficulties with the implementation on many levels.
One last item I must emphasize, and that is for you to understand that the vision of New Sudan as raised by the SPLM was not at the expense of Southern Sudan, but because we believe it provides a resolution that would be fair to all Sudanese. Pagan was articulating the historical grievances of Southerners and their demand for a seat on the table since time immemorial. For pseudo-democrats like you, that is a hanging offense and a reflection of a separatist and racist mentality. Alas, it says more about you because you are not evolved enough in your conception of justice and equality to acknowledge the right of Southerners to demand change or opt to leave where they can establish a more just and equatable nation state. You want to remain the arbiter of our collective fates, when we have already declared as SPLM that all Sudanese should be treated equally within a one nation, or the injured party should be allowed to determine its fate and secede. There is nothing but logic in that statement, and you know it clearly even though you want to blur it. At no time has Pagan, or for that matter our Historic Leader Dr. John Garang, ever say that they were fighting for an unconditional UNITY. It was always, and remains forever, a quest for a new dispensation IF it guarantees a UNITED SUDAN that is fair, equitable and at peace. That IF is the condition, and you can not turn around and accuse the speaker at that rally of being dishonest about what the SPLM has always articulated, when all he did was re-assert those points using what is happening in contemporary times in Khartoum.
Your wailing against the SPLM is not reflective of a genuine concern for the struggle against the NIF and NCP, but a manifestation of a deep seated contempt and hatred for Southerners. You and your ilk are the enemies of a new fair Sudan, and the adherents of the old Sudan were a Southerner cannot be bold and strong in expressing his or her rage at the injustices manifested in what we now call Sudan. You can prove me otherwise by telling me where in you or your party's program have you articulated a vision for a United Sudan that caters to me and my people in the South, the Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue, and by extension, our brothers in Darfur. At least the SPLM can proudly say that it has done so over two decades ago, and even our membership and leadership reflects that diversity in our concern and our priorities. Comrade Pagan also challenged you and your party to show the national character in your membership and leadership before you start lecturing us about UNITY and ONE SUDAN.
I will end with a big favor to you, and that is to remind you that your singular grudge match against the NCP and the INGAZ mafia can only be won by rolling your sleeves up and joining the SPLM in its fight for the implementation of the CPA. There is a more urgent but costly alternative, and that is for you to pick up your arms and go fight the Ingaz. I bet, given your track record, you will not opt for the second choice. So you are left with the 1st. I hope you realize soon enough that the SPLM is your ally and not your enemy. Nonetheless, I am realistic also that OLD HABITS DIE HARD.
