Dear Anwar and the rest of the brothers,
The purpose of the statement from the SPLM in DC is to outline the position of the Movement in order to not allow any confusion between what the Ambassador said and his positions as a member of the Movement. As you have all seen, he referred to himself as a General in the Movement who fought the government and not just as the envoy of the Government.
We believe that saying that the Darfur Movements are terrorists is wrong and not reflective of the Movement's position, and many other things said at the Press Conference contradicted the Movement's position. We have the right to clarify and anticipate any mixing between the Ambassador's views and that of the Movement. Those of you who find that objectionable should understand that the Movement is leading an initiative to bring the Darfur Movements together in Juba for the sake of a peaceful resolution, and statements like those in the Press conference negatively impact the initiative of Chairman Salva Kiir in bringing the Darfur factions around.
The point about the other SPLM Ministers and the responsibility of the leadership is legitimate, but that should not stop us from addressing this particular issue. Moreover, Ministers like Deng Alor and Malik Agar have several times criticized the Government and cannot all be lumped together like all other official who prefer to tow the line. The same is true of those not in the Executive like Honorable Atem Garang, Secretary General Pagan Amum and Yasir Arman when he was in Khartoum.
